In order to promote the preservation and utilization of historical buildings such as machiya (townhouses) in the castle town area (Shinmachi and Furumachi areas) and Kawajiri area, Kumamoto City will select “model townhouses” this year, which will be used as townhouses or parts of townhouses to conduct projects (stores and exchange facilities) that contribute to regional vitalization and tourism promotion, and will provide partial subsidy for necessary expenses.

If certain conditions are met, the subsidy can be used in combination with the townscape development subsidy.
